In preparation for my USA Today run in the Shadows and Sorcery boxset, I am writing a prequel to my novel, Stolen by Darkness, to help drum up some excitement for the first book in the trilogy.
The best part? The novella will be available February for FREE to all of my subscribers.
Here’s a sneak peek of Running from Darkness, prequel to The Dark Fae Trilogy:
“I run through the forest, unable to see more than one foot in front of me. The full moon is high in the sky, but its light is blocked by leaves as wide as my leg is long. Low hanging branches scratch my face and shrubs snag on my thin dress, but I don’t dare let it slow me down. Ten years. That’s how long I’ve been waiting for the chance to escape the hell my life had become. I refuse to let a few measly cuts keep me from freedom. I can’t afford to be caught by the sentries who are bound to come looking for me … if they haven’t already been dispatched to retrieve me.
The thought makes me pump my arms a little faster. I leap over a fallen log just in time to keep from tripping and falling on my face. Stumbling, I regain my balance after five to six steps. A painful stich stabs my left side, but I force myself to breathe in my nose and out of my mouth and keep going. Just a little farther, and I will reach the portal.
I can’t contain my winded gasp as anticipation builds in my chest. How long have I searched for a way to leave the Fae Realm? Escaping the Seelie Palace would be pointless without knowing of a way to actually leave the world ruled by Fae and return to my world—the Human Realm.
Earth, I remind myself.
You were born on Earth.
When I’d been abducted by Seelie sentries at the age of twelve, I had no idea what was waiting for me. I’d been walking home from school, cutting through the neighborhood park, when I first saw two males with gleaming gold armor and long, windblown hair. I’d been struck by the sight of the beautiful Fae, and I didn’t realize they were kidnapping me until it was too late to shout for help. They pulled me into a murky pond which turned out to be a portal into another world—the Fae Realm.
For almost an entire decade, I’d served the mystical and powerful beings in the palace as a glorified slave. The Fae fed and clothed me, and in return for their “generous” gifts, I was expected to do their bidding. I never expected their demands to become more unbearable the longer I lived among them. It’d taken several years, but I’d reached my breaking point. It was time to escape.”
Stay tuned for the novella in February!
